Much older than its more famous neighbor Myrtle Beach, the town of Conway was established in 1732 on the banks of the mighty Waccamaw River. The town’s rich history is proudly celebrated with walking tours and riverboat cruises. The town has nearly 40 historic sites, significant buildings and distinctive homes, 17 of which are included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Convenient to major hospitals, highways, and colleges with neighborhoods to fit every price range and preference, Conway is a great area for both full time residences and vacation homes. Conway offers a vibrant downtown, a touch of nostalgia and is host to several festivals throughout the year. The Conway Riverwalk is a scenic one-and-a-half-mile paved trail that follows the Waccamaw River with peaceful views of old, live oaks and the Conway City Marina.

The Horry County Government Center, where you’ll find the auditor’s and assessor’s office, as well as other county offices and courts, is located in Conway.

Conway’s elementary schools include Conway Elementary, Homewood, Kingston, Pee Dee and South Conway. Middle schools include Conway and Whittemore Park, and high schools include Conway High. Private and charter schools are also available.
